Resource Centre

General Information

The Library and Information Centre is an important focal point within the school. Students are given encouragement and the opportunity to develop skills to enable them to utilise the Resource Centre for their learning, accessing information and for enjoyment.

The fully-automated and networked Resource Centre is continually busy. The Resource Centre is open from 8.30 am - 3.15pm daily. It is closed at recess and open at lunchtime. Individuals, small groups and classes have access during class time. Parents are welcome to visit, browse and borrow.

Children are encouraged to change their library books before school, at lunch time or during library lessons. A library basket is placed in each classroom. Students who wish to return their books place the books in the basket which is taken to the Resource Centre first thing in the morning and returned  so that students can borrow their new books easily when they wish to.

There is no restriction on the number of times children can change their library books - regular borrowing is actively encouraged. General resources are available for a one or two week period. Younger students have a loan limit of 1 or 2 books while older students can borrow 3 books. Extra books may be borrowed when required. Junior primary children are encouraged to use their library bag to help protect the books.

Children from CPC to year 7 have a regular library lesson as part of the teaching program. Classes have the support of the teacher librarian at this time.

Students may come to the Resource Centre at any time with the permission of their teacher. A staff member must be present for students to enter the library.

The Resources

The resource collection contains picture books, easy chapter books, senior fiction, information books, graphic novels, magazines, reference books and literacy resources.  The teacher's reference resources and the audio visual equipment are housed in another location. The library has a computerised catalogue and uses the BookMark cataloguing system. The library has 8 computers with internet access. One computer is linked to the new interactive white board. CD Rom facilities are available for independent enquiry through various electronic encyclopedias and other resources.

Library Volunteers

Our library volunteers and student helpers help us to keep things running smoothly in many ways. They help us by : scanning, shelving and sorting books, covering new material, and preparing new resources for class use.
